Bitter, spicy and cool. Emmenagogue cardiac tonic, antispasmodic, nervine, diuretic, and carminative.  
Motherwort is said to help lower blood pressure and calm the heart when it is under stress from anxiety and nervousness. It has been used for tachycardia, cardiac edema, and heart palpitations. Another traditional use is to help bring on a suppressed menses, relieve symptoms of menopause, and supposedly calm muscle and menstrual cramps.
