Flaxseed is said to contain good fatty acids. Flaxseed, allowed to soak in water, will form a mucilaginous outer layer, or if ground up first and placed into water, it will form a mucilaginous paste. This property is said to help with dry lungs, ulcers, soften stools, and work as a mild laxative. The fatty acids it contains are said to be beneficial to the heart.
