Spp. Taraxacum officinale
Cooling and drying. Diuretic, stomachic, mild laxative.
Dandelion is much more than a weed in your garden. It has been a favorite in herbal formulas for the liver, saying it helps with congestion, protection, excretion of bile, and hepatitis. It seems to help with the proper functioning of the stomach, spleen, pancreas, bladder, and kidneys as well. It has been used for high blood pressure, goat, edema, high cholesterol, and arthritis. It is said to help clear the blood, but at the same time seems to replenish it with its abundance of minerals. The raw root is said to be a stronger diuretic, while the minerals are seen to be more available in the roasted variety. The roasted root has been used as a coffee replacement.
