Spp. Piper nigrum

Fam. Piperaceae

Spicy and hot. Circulatory stimulant, digestive, decongestant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant.

Black pepper can be a stimulating punch to add to any dish. Beyond its flavor, black pepper is also thought to bring warmth to the body by helping stimulate digestion, and kickstart a sluggish metabolism as well. In Ayurvedic medicine, it is said that black pepper, pippali long pepper, and ginger root are combined and used exactly for this purpose.  Other past uses for black pepper include stimulating blood circulation, and drying out mucus.
