Spicy and warm.
Anise can be used as a culinary spice. It is a carminative and traditionally has been used for various digestive complaints, such as relieving indigestion, flatulence, belching, nausea, and abdominal pains. It has expectorant qualities that are said to be useful for coughs, colds and fevers; it also is thought to have diaphoretic qualities useful for those issues as well. Anise seed has antispasmodic qualities, and has been used to help with coughing fits and muscle spasms.
