Acrid. Stimulant, diaphoretic, expectorant, antispasmodic and emetic.  
Lobelia has been used to ease asthmatic attacks, bronchitis, croup cough, whooping cough, and is said to relieve tension in the body. It is thought to contain a compound similar to nicotine, and has been used to help some people to quit smoking. Lobelia is considered to be a strong herb, so only a very small amount is needed for formulas.
